PICKERING, Mo. — Three women suffered moderate to serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash at around 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 15 on Missouri Highway 148 about 2 miles south of Pickering.

The three women were transported to hospitals. Ivy Swift, 20, Pickering, was transported by air ambulance to KU Medical Center. Leighanna Reinert, 18, Pickering; and Tori Foot, 21, Bedford, Iowa, were taken by ambulance to Mosaic Medical Center – Maryville.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the crash occurred as a 2010 Ford Escape driven by Foot was northbound on Missouri 148 and a 2015 Nissan Altima driven by Swift was westbound on 210th St.

Corporal B.E. Maudlin’s report notes that Foot, driving the Escape, was slowing down and attempting to pass another motorist turning eastbound onto a gravel road, when Swift, driving the Altima, failed to yield after stopping at a stop sign. The Escape struck the Altima in the driver door. The Escape came to a rest on its wheels on Highway 148 facing southwest. The Altima came to a rest on its wheels against a fence on the west side of Highway 148.

Both vehicles are listed as totaled in the report. The Altima was towed from the scene by Kizer Collision & Towing of Maryville. The Escape was towed from the scene by Walker Body Shop of Maryville.

The occupants of the Altima were wearing seat belts. The driver of the Escape was not wearing a seat belt.

Maudlin was assisted at the scene by the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department, Maryville Department of Public Safety, Maryville Fire Department and the Pickering Fire Department.
