Lions, hospital work to stop diabetes

Bill Calhoon, diabetes chairperson for Lions District 26 M4 presents a $1,000 check to Debra Hull, Mosaic Medical Center – Maryville diabetes educator. Lions Club International identified the global diabetes epidemic as its new signature cause. To bring more awareness to the cause and find ways of prevention in the Maryville area, Lions District 26 M4 donated $1,000 to the MMC-M Diabetes Education Program. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one out of three Americans has pre-diabetes, however, more than 84 percent don’t know it. Pre-diabetes increases a person’s risk of developing diabetes, however, lifestyle changes can lower the risk, according to a news release. MMC-M offers classes for both diabetes prevention and management. For more information, call Hull at 660-562-7966.
