MARYVILLE, Mo. — The Greater Maryville Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors have announced the June Customer Service Awardee: Dr. John Terry Symonds.

Symonds is the winner of the June Customer Service Award after being nominated by Stephanie Reed, of Oak Pointe Assisted Living & Memory Care.

“Dr. Symonds has been making regular, monthly visits to our community for quite some time now to serve his patients in the most convenient way possible,” Reed wrote in her nomination. “When COVID-19 hit, we immediately transitioned to virtual appointments. He is always such a morale boost for the residents when they see him.”

She explained that Oak Pointe, though now holding outdoor porch visits for residents, Symonds continues to support their needs and has not questioned Oak Pointe’s continued focus and commitment to safety. While seeing patients in the family practice setting, area nursing homes and assisted living communities, he still manages to find time to work a lot of hours at the emergency room, she said.

“We want to let Dr. Symonds know how thankful we are to be a community care partner and value his dedication, time and expertise,” Reed wrote. “He is just one of a lot of great physicians, nurses and care partners we are lucky to have in this community and work with every day.”

Highlighting exceptional customer service, the chamber is announcing weekly, the monthly winners that were selected while the ambassadors were not meeting during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Few things have changed as much as health care during COVID-19,” said Gentry Martin, chamber board president. “Even as businesses make the slow return to normal, our communities’ senior living and assisted living facilities continue to deal with the ramifications of the pandemic daily.

“We want to express our sincere thanks to Dr. Symonds, and the staff of Mosaic Medical Center – Maryville for their work to support the senior and assisted living facilities in our area.”

The chamber ambassadors intend the monthly recognition to create positive relationships between businesses and their customers, build lasting impressions of Maryville and Nodaway County communities and enhance the importance of customer service year-round.
