ATLANTA, Ga. — Serena Sundell’s summer basketball season came to an end last weekend at the Under Armor Association Finals in Atlanta.
The week started for the Spoofhound star and her KC Lady Run GMC teammates with a 3-0 showing at the Southern Showcase — winning by 9, 12 and 23 points.
The Kansas City-based team then shifted its focus to the UAA Finals and a first-round game. Run GMC trailed by two with less than a second left, but Sundell was fouled and went to the line needing to make two to force overtime. She made the first.
Sundell also canned the second, but a teammate was called for a lane violation and the basket was waved off and the team was handed a 46-45 loss.
With 17th-place as high as they could achieve in the 32-team tournament, Run GMC won four straight games to take 17th.
Sundell scored eight and made both her threes while collecting four assists and no turnovers in a 58-45 win over BC United.
She then led the team with 16 points in a 55-37 win over Power Move then led them again with 13 points in a 55-45 win over the Minnesota Fury.
Sundell scored a team-high 11 on 3-of-4 shooting (2-2 from three) in a 57-46 win in the consolation final over the Michigan Storm.
