Bearcat football rankings

The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats have been slotted in at No. 2 in Street & Smith’s pre-season ranking of the top Division II college football teams in the country.

MARYVILLE, Mo. — Street & Smith’s 2020 College Football Preview has tabbed the Northwest Missouri State University football team at No. 2 in its preseason rankings.

Bearcat senior offensive lineman Tanner Owen from Kearney, Missouri, also has been named to the magazine’s preseason Division II All-America squad.

Northwest returns 16 starters and 59 letter winners from a season ago. 

The Bearcats are coming off a 12-2 mark, which saw the program reach the quarterfinals of the 2019 NCAA Division II playoffs.

The Bearcats are ranked No. 5 in Lindy’s Sports College Football National 2020 Preview issue.

Owen is listed as a first-team All-America pick by Lindy’s.

Northwest is slated to open the 2020 season Oct. 3 at home against Pittsburg State.
