EVANSVILLE, Mo. — Joey Witthus is making the most out of his final season in the green and white.

While Northwest Missouri State prepared for its Elite Eight game in Evansville, Indiana, Witthus learned that he was named an All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Witthus was informed of the honor while the team was at a retirement home in Evansville on Tuesday, playing BINGO with the residents.

“It is a cool feeling,” Witthus said. “I give credit to my teammates and just the year that we had. This is such a fun team and the unselfishness of this team is really cool and allows awards like that to happen.”

Witthus in the third NABC All-American in school history, following DeShaun Cooper in 2014 and Justin Pitts in 2017 and 2018. The Bearcat forward is averaging 21.5 points per game this season while shooting over 50 percent from the field and over 45 percent from three.

“He is a matchup nightmare,” Bearcat coach Ben McCollum said. “You have to switch him, but then we can post him up. He understands ball screens. He understands how to score in a variety of ways and he is a worker so he makes everyone around him better.”
