STANBERRY, Mo. — The South Holt/Nodaway-Holt Spartans were able to crown a pair of champions on Friday night at the Stanberry Invitational.
For the Spartan boys, senior Reagan Morris racked up four medals including a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a 53.34. Morris was second in the 200-meter dash, losing to Pattonsburg’s Cameron Jones by just a tenth of a second.
Morris added a third-place medal to his first and second with a 39-foot-6.5 in the triple jump. The senior was joined by Eric Ottman, Chanse Barnes and Drew Quinlin to take fifth in the 4x200-meter relay.
Quinlin added an individual medal in the javelin where he was fifth with a throw of 135-feet.
Senior Taran Clark nearly matched Morris by earning up three medals. Clark’s top finish came in the 110-meter high hurdles where Clark was second with a 16.1.
“I’m pretty happy with it,” Clark said. “I feel like I can do a lot better though if I just keep working on my form and getting my steps down.”
Clark was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a 45.6. He was also a member of the 4x100 relay team that took fifth along with Gannon Phelan, Brilyn Devers and Ottman.
Freshman Dawson Fansher took fourth in both the mile and two-mile runs and freshman Hayden Elifrits was third in the shot put.
The Spartan boys took fifth as a team while the girls were seventh.
“We have a lot of people on our team that like to try hard,” Clark said. “That is one thing we do — we have a lot of effort on our team. I think that is what makes us stand out as a team as a whole.”
For the girls, senior Olivia Richards matched her classmate Morris with four medals. She took first in the triple jump by reaching 34-foot-5.5.
Richards was second in the 100-meter high hurdles with a 16.8 second time. She was third in the long jump with a 15-foot-3.75.
The senior joined Shaina Culp, Emma Bohannon and Amanda Bohannon in the 4x100-meter relay to take third. Culp and the Bohannon sisters were joined by Lynden Prussman in the 4x200-meter relay and finished fifth.
Reese Morris, Makayla Bohart, Chelsey Guyer and Prussman took sixth in the 4x800-meter relay. Morris rounded out the medalists for the Spartans by finishing fourth in the 3,200-meter run with a 14:00.4.
The Spartans now prepare for Tuesday’s Blue Jay Relays at Rock Port before the following Tuesday’s Tiger Relays at Grant City.
