Mary Ellen Cook 

1943-2019

Mary Ellen Cook, 76, a resident of Platte City, Missouri formerly of Parkville, Missouri, passed away September 24, 2019 at the St. Luke’s North Hospital on Barry Rd. She was born on April 27, 1943 in Maryville, Missouri to Michael Joseph and Frances B. (Walter) Riley.

Mary Ellen graduated from Ravenwood High School. In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, she was employed by Lift Truck Services in Kansas City, Missouri. She then stayed home to raise her two girls, and she was very active with their school and extracurricular activities. Mary Ellen spent the last 20 years as a library aide for the Mid-Continent Public Library in Parkville. In her spare time, she enjoyed decorating, gardening and shopping, especially at Hobby Lobby. She loved spending time with her family and taking care of her grandchildren. Mary Ellen was a very spiritual person and attended St. Therese Parish in her earlier years.

She married Marvin Lee Cook on October 30, 1971 in Kansas City. In addition to Marvin, survivors include two daughters:  Stephanie Garrett of Olathe, Kansas and Trisha Vassmer and husband, Nick of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; a brother, Jim Riley of Maryville, Missouri; two sisters: Joan Wilson and husband, Dale of Sand Springs, Oklahoma and Theresa Riley of Maryville, Missouri; four grandchildren: Peyton, Rylee, Allie and Maddie.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Mary Ellen’s life from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at the Meyers Northland Chapel, 401 Main St. Parkville, MO.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or flowers are welcomed.  Memories of Mary Ellen and condolences may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com.
