Gerald Ray Dew
Gerald Ray Dew (Buzz) was born in Burlington Junction, Missouri on September 8, 1937 to Woodrow W. Dew and Gertrude Watkins Dew.
The second eldest of seven children, he grew up in Nodaway County, Missouri, on a farm in the 102 River bottom and graduated from Maryville High School in 1955, where he participated in FFA. Gerald served four years (1955-1959) in the US Air Force as a dog handler in the Air Police at Laughlin AFB near Del Rio, Texas, followed by eight years in the Air Force Reserve.
While based in Del Rio, Gerald met Peggy Lee Shipman and they were married on August 10, 1957. Following active duty, they made their home on the Texas Gulf Coast. Gerald worked in retail sales and management, newspaper advertising, and ultimately owned an office supply and printing business in Lake Jackson, Texas before retiring.
After 50 years in Texas, he moved back to Burlington Junction in 2006. He enjoyed being able to spend more time with his siblings and the extended Dew family in NW Missouri. But after 13 Missouri winters, he and Peggy returned to Texas in 2019 to be near their children. They lived in Flatonia, Texas where Gerald worked two days a week at the Central Texas Rail History Center.
Gerald was committed to caring for family and serving his community. Gerald was a member of the Freeport Jaycees and the Lions Club, and active in various civic improvement projects. He was a proud parent and an enthusiastic supporter of any activity his children were involved in. Gerald and Peggy were married for more than 62 years.
Gerald passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the age of 82.
Gerald is survived by his widow, Peggy Dew; his children Greg Dew (Nanette), Karen and (Wee Ken “Woody”) Joe, and Tim Dew; his grandson Justin Joe; and brothers Woodrow Dew, Jerry Dew (Anita), Steven Dew (Catherine), and sister Phyllis Krebs (Phil).
