Richard Bix, 79, of Forest Hills, California, formerly of Siam, Iowa passed away April 19, 2019 in Forest Hills, California. A luncheon with visitation will be held Saturday, May 25, 2019 11:00 a.m. at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with a graveside memorial service at 1:00 p.m. to follow at the Siam Cemetery, Siam, Iowa with Rev. Richard LeRoy Bix was born June 18, 1939 in Siam, Iowa to James Theodore (Ted) Bix and Muriel Maye (Parks) Bix on Father’s day. He graduated from New Market High School with the class of 1957. Richard was united in marriage June 18, 1982 in Shambaugh, Iowa to Melva Bell.
Preceding Richard in death were his parents, Ted and Maye Bix; daughter, Kolleen Bix; twin brothers in infancy and brothers, Larry Bix and Elvis Bix.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Melva Bix of Maryville, Missouri; daughters, Kriss Swalla of Dubuque, Iowa, Jamie (Travis) Sprague of Forest Hills, California; sons, Kenyon (Corrina) Bix of Clarinda, Iowa, Richard II (Kayla) Bix of Platte City, Missouri, Randall Bix of Maryville, Missouri, Daniel (fiancé Jamiee) Bix of Maryville, Missouri; two grandsons, Dalton Bix and Cody Grimes; one granddaughter, Samantha Grimes; one great granddaughter, Gracie; one great grandson, Sylas; nieces; nephews; cousins and many friends.
Richard was mayor of Shambaugh, Iowa and did water treatment at the water plant in Shambaugh. He worked at Whipp Sales and Service in Clarinda. Richard worked over 20 years in Siam in his own repair business. He loved playing the guitar and singing in the Bix Brothers Band for over 25 years.
