Marvin Edison Palmer


Marvin Edison Palmer, age 94, died on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the Meeker Manor Rehabilitation Center in Litchfield, Minnesota.   

Marvin Edison Palmer, the son of Theodore and Esther (Nigal) Palmer, was born on November 2, 1924 in Saint Joseph, Missouri. He grew up on a farm near Barnard, Missouri. He graduated from Central High School, St Joseph.

After high school he was drafted in to the U.S. Navy. He served four years during WWII and was aboard a troop transport ship. Following his naval service, he served in the National Guard.

Marvin worked as an assistant manager of a Goodyear Tire Store and then in the parts department of the Ford dealership in Pittsburg, Kansas. He then began management training with Farmland Industries in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

On December 31, 1953, he was united in marriage to Laberta Roush. They moved to Auburn, Nebraska in 1960 and he managed the Coop there for 30 years before retiring in 1990. Laberta died November 18, 2011. In 2011 he moved to Minnesota. 

Marvin enjoyed, camping, bingo, eating out, guns and cars. He loved an excuse to drive someplace. He also loved football and in high school was a very good athlete.

He is survived by his sons, Ken (Theresa) Palmer of Albertville, Minnesota, Lonnie Palmer of Albertville, Richard (Heidi) Palmer of Omaha, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Wendall Palmer of Barnard and Donald (Marilyn) Palmer of St. Louis, Missouri and sister Geraldine Patterson of Maryville, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Laberta and sister Mary Louise Reardon.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville.  Military services will be conducted at the graveside.
