MARYVILLE, Mo. — Cheering loudly and waving hand-drawn signs, Maryville Middle School students sent off to state competition, five Maryville High School cross country runners on Friday.
The Maryville High School boys cross country team qualified for the state championship meet as a team for only the third time in school history after a second place finish at districts last weekend.
Four runners qualified individually for state competition on the boys side: Gharrett Dumke, Jag Galapin, Cale Sterling and Chase Sims.
On the girls side, Laura Feuerbacher qualified as an individual for state competition, for the fourth time in her career. She is the third girl in Maryville history to qualify for the state meet in all four years.
The state championship meet will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Gans Creek Recreation Area in Columbia, Missouri.
