A collision Monday morning sent one driver, Russell J. Redden, 25, of Maryville, to the hospital in serious condition. The collision on Highway 71 totaled both vehicles.

MARYVILLE, Mo. — A Maryville man is in serious condition after a collision with a tractor-trailer Monday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Russell J. Redden, 25, was attempting to turn south onto U.S. Highway 71 from Gray's truck stop just before 10:30 a.m. Monday when he pulled into the path of a tractor-trailer headed north on the highway. The tractor-trailer, driven by Christopher E. Thorburn, 48, of St. Joseph, collided with the driver’s side of Redden’s 2012 GMC 2500, totaling both vehicles.

Redden was transported by ambulance to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. The report noted he was not wearing his seat belt.

The tractor-trailer driver, Christopher E. Thorburn, 48, of St. Joseph, suffered minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to the hospital in St. Joseph.
