MARYVILLE, Mo. — Alex Catterson, 22, of Maryville, will face a jury of his peers Monday, Feb. 11, in the death of Northwest Missouri State University student Morgan McCoy, a 19-year-old sophomore elementary education major from Liberty, Missouri.
Catterson has been charged with class B felony DWI – death of another not a passenger — following an alleged crash involving his black GMC pickup into the front of The Palms Bar, located at 422 N. Buchanan St at about 12:40 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018.
The vehicle was said to have hit McCoy, who was standing inside. She later died at SSM Health St. Francis Hospital. According to the probable cause statement released by Nodaway County Prosecuting Attorney Robert Rice, the vehicle came to rest partially inside the establishment.
At the time, Catterson was taken into custody by Maryville Public Safety and given a breathalyzer test which read .207. The legal limit to operate a motor vehicle in the state of Missouri is .08.
Circuit Court Judge Roger Prokes will oversee the case to be held at the Nodaway County Courthouse, 305 N. Main St. in Maryville.
Catterson is being represented by defense attorney Samuel Scroggie. Rice will prosecute along with co-counsel Special Prosecuting Attorney Stephanie Watson, of Jefferson City.
