MARYVILLE, Mo. — The Maryville Heart & Sole 5K, set for Saturday, Feb. 15, will help raise funds for Helping Rural Hearts.
Mosaic Medical Center – Maryville and Northwest Missouri State University have partnered to host the Heart & Sole walk from 8 a.m. to noon at the Carl and Cheryl Hughes Fieldhouse.
The student-led project aims to raise funds to supply rural and underserved communities in the area with defibrillators and proper training, according to a hospital news release.
Launched in 2012 to honor the memories of Northwest coach Scott Bostwick and Maryville High School coach and teacher Dale Kisker, the walk is held to raise awareness about heart attacks and strokes all the while encouraging healthy eating and physical activity to improve heart health.
This year the event has been moved to winter and will consist of walking laps, educational booths and a health fair while raising funds for AEDs.
Registration opens at 7 a.m. and the walk begins at 8 a.m. Registration costs $20 per person and includes a Heart & Sole T-shirt. Heart disease survivors may register for free.
