MARYVILLE, Mo. — A new-business celebration will take place at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Luke Therapy Services LLC, located at 200 N. Dewey St. in Maryville.
The clinic is owned and operated by Renae Luke, a certified speech-language pathologist who holds a master’s degree in health science along with a certificate of clinical competence in speech-language pathology (CCC-SLP).
Luke Therapy Services provides pediatric-based speech, language and literacy services, including diagnostic evaluations and treatment of communication and language-based reading disorders.
According to a release issued by Northwest Missouri Enterprise Facilitation, a regional nonprofit offering consulting services to new business owners and entrepreneurs, Luke Therapy Services is the only clinic in the Maryville area offering comprehensive evaluations for language-based reading disorders, including dyslexia, along with multi-sensory instruction designed to help clients overcome such disorders or cope with them more effectively.
The release continued that the building containing the clinic houses a total of four small businesses, all owned by women “who believe in collaborating to provide exceptional care and promote wellness to the northwest Missouri community.”
“I absolutely love what I do,” Luke said. “I saw an opportunity to do what I love near my hometown. The need for therapies in northwest Missouri is vast. There is no reason families should have to travel long distances for high-quality speech, language and literacy services.
“My experience in both the medical and school settings of speech-language pathology made me feel confident in my knowledge and skill-set to make the transition to owning my own practice.”
Luke continued that NWMEF involvement played an important role in helping her get the new business off the ground.
“I do not have a business degree and have relied heavily on the knowledge and expertise of local professionals to guide me in the process of opening a business,” she said. “I know how to do my job and am confident in my skills as a speech-language pathologist, but there has been a learning curve to becoming a self-employed speech-language pathologist.”
NWMEF’s service region comprises Andrew, Atchison, Gentry, Holt, Nodaway and Worth counties. Service are confidential and offered at no cost.
