North Nodaway accepting reservations for banquet

MARYVILLE, Mo. — North Nodaway Alumni Association is now accepting reservations for its annual Alumni Banquet.

The event is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 at the North Nodaway High School. Cost of the meal is $16.50. Dues cost is $2.

Red Cross to offer free smoke alarm installations

MARYVILLE, Mo. — The American Red Cross of Greater Kansas City and Northwest Missouri is preparing to install free smoke alarms throughout northwest Missouri.

“We are asking everyone in the northwest Missouri area to take one very simple step to help save lives,” said Matt Meyer, executive director of the Great Kansas City and Northwest Missouri chapter. “Please sign up for a free smoke alarm if you don’t have one or if your current alarm is over 10 years old.”

Volunteers will assist with alarm installations throughout Maryville on Saturday, April 20.

To request an alarm installation, visit www.getasmokealarm.org or call 816-841-5204. Red Cross staff or volunteers will contact those who sign up to set up a time to do the installations.

Pickering Alumni Association to hold 84th annual meeting

MARYVILLE, Mo. — The Pickering Alumni Association will hold its 84th annual meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 25 in the A & G Restaurant banquet room.

Plans were made by Margueritte and Virgil Carmichael, Lester Jr and Marjorie Roush, Harmon Mothershead, George Swink, Melvin Ashford, John and Donna Carmichael, John and Sharron Freeman and Ramona Pennington.

All alumni, former teachers and spouses are welcome to attend. All notes of communication will be read at the meeting.

Elks lodge to hold community blood drive

MARYVILLE, Mo. — Maryville Elks Lodge No. 760 will hold a community blood drive Monday, April 22.

From 3 to 7 p.m., community members can sign up or walk in to give blood at the First Baptist Church gymnasium, 121 E. Jenkins St.

Ministerial Fellowship to sponsor Stations of the Cross Procession

MARYVILLE, Mo. — The Maryville Ministerial Fellowship is sponsoring a Good Friday, 2-mile Stations of the Cross Procession through Downtown Maryville to the Northwest Missouri State University Campus Bell Tower and back to the Nodaway County Courthouse.

There will be 14 stations and crosses will be available to carry for portions of the procession. The fellowship is inviting the community to join the procession at 12:30 p.m. on Good Friday, April 19, at the southeast corner of the courthouse (Third and Market streets).

It is suggested that those walking wear appropriate shoes and outerwear for the day’s weather. It is also advised that participants bring water for themselves during the event.
