MARYVILLE, Mo. — Although a more elaborate celebration was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Fourth of July fireworks will still light up the skies above Mozingo Lake this weekend.
The city’s Independence Day celebration was initially planned to be much larger to also commemorate the 25th anniversary of Mozingo Lake Recreation Park, complete with musical acts. But those plans had to be scrapped because of the pandemic. Instead, the city will be putting on a much smaller event.
“We will still have fireworks this year, but we won’t be doing any of the other activities we’ve done over the past several years,” said Assistant City Manager Ryan Heiland in an email to The Forum. “Just fireworks. People are encouraged to socially distance and be respectful of others while enjoying the fireworks.”
