Community blood drive set for Tuesday

MARYVILLE, Mo. — The Community Blood Center has declared an emergency blood shortage and plans to hold a community blood drive on Tuesday, May 28 at the First United Methodist Church, 102 N. Main St.

From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. donors may drop in or make an appointment to give their life-saving donation in the basement of the church. Each donor will be able to choose a thank you gift of a pair of Kansas City Royals tickets, a free Royals T-shirt or a $5 gift card to the online Major League Baseball store. Pickering Lions Club to host pony pull

PICKERING, Mo. — The Pickering Lions Club plans to host a pony pull competition beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 1 in the Pickering Arena. Midwest Percentage Pony Pullers will present the pull. Concessions will be available for purchase. 

 

Cruzin’ Clarinda event set for June 1

CLARINDA, Iowa — The Clarinda Chamber of Commerce has announced the fifth annual Cruzin’ Clarinda event set for Saturday, June 1 on the Clarinda downtown square.

Registration for the parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. The Show & Shine will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. The parade will be held at 5:30 p.m. Line up starts at 5 p.m. at the intersection of 13th and Washington streets.

The first 150 vehicle owners to register will receive a free event dash plaque, according to information from the chamber.  Owners of all motorized vehicles: cars, trucks, motorcycles, tractors and more are encouraged to participate.

Free children’s activities and vendors will be on the Page County Courthouse lawn throughout the Show & Shine.

TNR Maryville to hold ‘Spay-getti & Fix’ns’ Dinner

MARYVILLE, Mo. — TNR Maryville will host a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5 at the Community of Faith Assembly of God Church, 921 E. Third St. in Maryville. 

The dinner menu will consist of spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, dessert and drinks. Cost is a freewill donation. The organization also will hold a raffle.

 

Tickets available for Northwest Night at the Mustangs game

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Northwest Missouri State University alumni and friends are invited to enjoy a fun-filled evening at the ballpark during the ninth annual Northwest Night at the St. Joseph Mustangs game on Saturday, June 8.

The Mustangs will take on the Nevada Griffons starting at 7 p.m. at Phil Welch Stadium, 2600 Southwest Parkway in St. Joseph. 

According to a university news release Alumni and friends also are invited to a tailgate party from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Northwest Alumni Association tent outside the stadium. 

The party will feature a meal catered by Hy-Vee including hot dogs for $5 or hamburger for $6. Both meal options include chips, cookie and a drink. Fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

St. Joe Code Club to hold summer program

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The St. Joe Code Club, established in 2018, is planning a summer program for elementary students to learn how to code and develop creative problem-solving skills.

The program will consist of two five-day sessions open to second-graders through fifth-graders. The first session is scheduled for Monday, June 3 through Friday, June 7. The second session is scheduled Monday, June 10 through Friday, June 14. 

Each session will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Meierhoffer Community Room, located at 5005 Frederick Ave. Parents may register at stjoecodeclub.com. Cost per student is $150.

 

Fairfax Auxiliary offers health care scholarship

FAIRFAX, Mo. — Community Hospital-Fairfax Auxiliary is sponsoring a health care educational scholarship program.

The program will provide assistance to students currently accepted in the health care field of study at any approved educational institution.

The amount of scholarship funds available will be decided by the Auxiliary each year. Scholarships may be renewed. 

Scholarships will be considered once a year for the fall semester. Completed applications for this fall’s semester must be submitted by Sunday, June 30.
