MARYVILLE, Mo. — Easter is still more than a week away, but you wouldn't have known it from kinds of activities that went on Saturday at the Maryville Community Center.

In a first-of-its-kind event for Maryville, the Easter carnival was organized by local resident and amateur puppeteer Janet Meier, a machine operator at DR1V (formerly Federal-Mogul), who said simply, “I thought we needed to do more for Easter than just the egg hunt.”

So Meier got to work enrolling a long list of sponsors, including her employer, and used the proceeds to rent the Community Center gymnasium for a day of eggs, crafts, juggling, bounce-housing, puppet shows and, of course an appearance by the Easter Bunny.

She also hired entertainers, including Omaha, Nebraska-based professional juggler Peter Brunette

The free event was open to the public.
