COUNTY COMMISSION MINUTES

The Nodaway County Commission met in regular session Tuesday, June 11.

In attendance were Presiding Commissioner Bill Walker, North District Commissioner Chris Burns, South District Commissioner Robert Stiens and County Clerk Melinda Patton. 

Business before the board included:

• Approvals and requisitions: invoice for Metal Culverts Inc.; liquor licenses for Something Country, Athwal LLC, C. Burns Enterprises, Pagliai’s Pizza, A&G Restaurant, Carson’s Sports Grille; a Sheriff’s Office requisition for FastCase Inc. law library.

• Correspondence: May additions and abatements summary; sales tax, use tax and gravel tax reports; summary of settlement for May.

• A phone call from a Polk Township resident with regard to drainage tubes in the Scout Ridge housing development.

• Resignation of Kurby L. Kenny from the Enhanced Enterprise Zone Board.

• Approval of federal expenditures and a contract amendment with regard to a Community Development Block Grant.

• Road and bridge inspections: a drainage tube on road 84 and tubes near road 484 in Polk Township; a bridge on road 286 in Union Township; a bridge on road 805 in Monroe Township; and tubes on roads 298 and 341 in Nodaway Township.

• A meeting with Maryville City Manager Greg McDanel with regard to proposed consolidation of city and county 911 dispatch services.

• A request to Mid-Continental Restoration Co. for a light-repair estimate on the courthouse clock tower.

• Scheduling of interviews for the position of county facilities maintenance technician.

In attendance were Presiding Commissioner Bill Walker, North District Commissioner Chris Burns, South District Commissioner Robert Stiens and County Clerk Melinda Patton. 

Business before the board included:

• Approvals and requisitions: inventory transfer/disposal form; liquor licenses for Hy-Vee, Backyard Vine & Wine, The Q BBQ, Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar, Walgreens, Aramark, Rick’s Country Shoppe, Dollar General No. 227, The Stable Pub & Grub; payment requisition for the Railroad Yard for a steel tank, payment requisition for Gray Oil & Gas Co. for diesel fuel, payment requisition for Summa Implement Co. for parts; payment requisition for EJ Rice for 2019-’20 canvassing.

• Correspondence and reports: Extension Council expense report for May 2019, floodplain development permit/application.

• A consolidated 911 dispatch meeting attended by the commissioners, Maryville City Manager Greg McDanel, Public Safety Director Keith Wood, Sheriff Randy Strong and Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Wedlock.

• Approval of a Community Development Block Grant environmental assessment and review.

• A telephone meeting with Hughes Township Trustee Stan Sportsman with regard to roads and drainage tubes.

• A telephone meeting with a Polk Township resident who voiced concerns about Hawk Road.

• A meeting with White Cloud wind farm Development Manager Reed Bartels that included approval of an irrevocable letter of credit.

• Approval of a letter to State Conservationist J.R. Flores requesting federal assistance under the provisions of the Flood Control Act and the Agricultural Credit Act.

• A meeting with Snyder & Associates engineer Andy Macias with regard to approval of U.S. Army Corp of Engineers applications for construction for bridges 0120007, 0198008, 00320022 and 0407005.
