MARYVILLE, Mo. — Customers may have noticed a new name on the door of a Maryville accounting firm this tax season.
Dannen Merrill is the new partner in Marsh, Espey & Merrill — formerly Marsh, Espey & Riggs — after the retirement of Jerry Riggs.
“As we move on, I know Dannen will serve you with the same dedication and care as I have attempted to provide you over the years,” Riggs said in a letter to clients last fall.
A Maryville native, Merrill graduated from Northwest and had worked for three years as an auditor with BKD in Kansas City. Last year, he joined Marsh, Espey & Riggs.
“You always see where, you know, ‘all the jobs are in the city,’ and that’s the story you hear for small towns like this,” Merrill told The Forum. “But there are still jobs for professionals back here, and when that opportunity arises, you have to be willing to take advantage of it.”
Merrill said that clients should expect a smooth transition, and especially looks forward to working with small businesses looking for the expertise of a CPA in a particularly tricky tax year that saw a major overhaul to the tax codes.
“But who doesn’t want an opportunity to go back to their hometown and make a living?” Merrill said.
